Biophotonic Probes: Synthesis and Applications in Biological Imaging
Organic Chemistry and Biophotonics Research at NJIT
We are developing novel organic nonlinear optical probes and bioconjugates that can be used to detect events inside biological systems and for deep tissue in vivo imaging via two-photon fluorescence microscopy. These nonlinear optical probes, i.e. organic two-photon absorbing probes, are more sensitive and more stable than existing detection methods and are able to identify lesser-known activities inside biological systems (cells or tissues). With sponsorship from the Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering of the National Institute of Health, we developed probes for two-photon based deep tissue tumor and angiogenesis imaging.
