The Newark Tree Canopy Initiative is a collaborative effort to enhance urban forestry and transform Newark into a greener, healthier city. This initiative is a part of the USDA Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forest Program, which aims to improve over 140 million acres of urban and community forest across the United States.
In partnership with the The Nature Conservancy, state organizations, and local community groups, this project focuses on planting trees, creating green spaces, and promoting environmental sustainability in urban settings.
Urban trees provide numerous benefits, including improving air quality, reducing urban heat islands, enhancing mental well-being, and supporting local wildlife. By investing in Newark’s tree canopy, we are contributing to a more livable and sustainable future for its residents.
