In Purge & Trap (dynamic headspace) analysis volatile organics from aqueous or non-aqueous matrices are concentrated into detectable by the GC levels (e.g., drinking water). Volatile organic compounds are removed from water matrices during purge and concentrated on the trap sorbent. The organics are subsequently eluted from the sorbent and injected into a GC for separation and detection.
