DOD Launches 6G R&D Center as it Eyes Transition to NextG Wireless Tech: The Department of Defense recently launched three new projects for its Innovative Beyond 5G Program, including creating a research and development hub for 6G technology. The project, Open6G, is a collaborative initiative between industry and universities, designed to be a catalyst for 6G systems research on open radio access networks, or Open RAN. Called Open6G, it will be the DOD’s center for “development, testing and integration of trusted enhancements, supporting an industry and federal government NextG ecosystem pursuing 6G technology goals,” according to the press release. The project, led by a $1.77 million award from IB5G, will focus on Open RAN research and open source implementation of 5G protocol stack features to support 5G applications. Pursuant to a cooperative agreement with the Army Research Laboratory, Northeastern University’s Kostas Research Institute is managing the project, and the university’s Institute for Wireless Internet of Things will house the technical work of the initiative. More information is posted on the NextGov website.

New Bill Would Unlock Cybersecurity Funding for Small Businesses: New legislation would provide more federal funding to help small businesses safeguard against cyberattacks as ransomware hacks remain a critical threat for all organizations. Introduced on Thursday by Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., the Small Business Cybersecurity Act would give more federal funding to Small Business Development Centers nationwide. This comes as experts warn that malicious cyber attackers are liable to target smaller entities as well as large infrastructure organizations. Funding included in the bill would help small businesses install stronger cybersecurity technology into their networks and provide employee and staff training. “As small businesses continue to modernize and do more work online, the risk of cyberattacks becomes more serious,” she said. “New Hampshire’s Small Business Development Center is providing crucial support to local businesses, reviewing their cybersecurity and helping them defend against hackers. I encourage my colleagues to pass this bill so that Small Business Development Centers in New Hampshire and across the country can keep working to protect small businesses from cyberattacks and help them thrive.”

Department of Energy Announces $4.7 Million for Research and Development Partnership Pilots: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $4.7 million in funding for 35 new grants to colleges and universities that are under-represented in DOE’s foundational climate, Earth, and environmental science research investments. These grants will help provide technical assistance to build capacity and achieve the goal of broadening institutional participation in DOE’s science investments. Selected projects will develop partnerships that focus on a wide range of climate and environmental science topics, from the role that atmospheric aerosols play in climate change to efforts to assure that America’s most vulnerable communities will become more resilient to the pressures imposed by a warming world. Partnerships will involve collaborations with DOE-supported projects at national laboratories, universities, and/or DOE user facilities, to enhance institutional capacity with a goal to strengthen and diversify American science. Projects were chosen by competitive merit review under the DOE Funding Opportunity Announcement, “Research Development and Partnership Pilot (RDPP),” sponsored by the Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program within the Department’s Office of Science. Funding totals $4.7 million in fiscal year 2022 dollars for projects lasting 18 to 22 months. A list of projects can be found at the BER website under “What's New.”

Question: Can I generate budgets for multiple years from the Year-1 budget in Streamlyne?
Answer: Yes! You only need to input the Year-1 budget and then click on the “generate all periods” button. Stremalyne will create budget sheets for the remaining periods. You can then go to “summary” under the budget tab to review budget sheets for all periods. You can also change specific budget items that you allocated in Year-1 but you do not want to continue them in the following periods.
