GSA begins quantum security efforts for digital and physical systems: The General Services Administration announced on Monday that it is leveraging two of its existing programs to support quantum-resilient cryptography migration efforts, following a June executive order on bolstering the government’s post-quantum security and subsequent memorandum.   The first effort will be made through the Federal Identity, Credential and Access Management framework, a foundational architecture of federal identity systems. GSA said it will be updating this framework to include quantum-resilient algorithms that maintain compatibility with existing systems. “This modernization ensures that agencies can transition smoothly to new security standards without disrupting daily operations,” GSA said in a press release. Tech bills of the week: identifying sponsored content in AI tools; Reshoring biotech manufacturing; and more: New legislation seeks to continue efforts to publicly identify sponsored content that appears in artificial intelligence tools like chatbots and AI-enabled search engines. The AI Advertising Disclosure Act, introduced by Rep. Set Magaziner, D-R.I., on Aug. 24, primarily seeks to require the disclosure of paid influence advertising on AI platforms. It would establish disclosure standards “in plain language” and ensure that the AI tools themselves are programmed to disclose commercial partnerships. The bill empowers the Federal Trade Commission to enforce the bill, where violations would constitute unfair or deceptive acts and practices within the FTC Act.  Notably, states would have jurisdiction. State attorneys general would be permitted to bring civil actions on behalf of resident plaintiffs following violations of the bill, and civilians would thus be granted a private right of action.
