Flame atomic absorption is a very common technique for detecting metals and metalloids in environmental samples. It is very reliable and simple to use.
With the Flame AA, the sample atomization occurs when a liquid sample is drawn into a flame. The flame serves as a “sample holder”, as the light passes through the atoms and flame simultaneously, and the absorbance of light calculated. Hollow- cathode lamp is an excellent, bright line source for most of the elements determinable by atomic absorption. Light of the appropriate wavelength is supplied and the amount of light absorbed can be measured against a standard curve.
