Animal Satellite Facility and Behavioral Suite
Satellite animal housing facilities are located within the Blast facility that accommodate short term animal housing and terminal study animal post handling. A separate animal quarters is secured in a central facility at Rutgers, Newark, across the street from NJIT, for more involved animal support and survival studies. Animals are housed and fed by the Laboratory Animal Care staff at Rutgers Newark. A staff veterinarian is available for consultation. Additionally, 500 sq. ft. of space dedicated to animal experimentation is located within the Rutgers animal facilities. This space has equipment dedicated to tissue isolation, animal surgery, and behavior.
For functional behavioral animal testing, several Behavioral Paradigms are utilized at CIBM3 including the RotaRod test, rotating pole, Ladder-rung walk Test, Metric and Spatial Information Task, Morris-Water-Maze, Acoustic Startle Reflex, elevated plus and zero maze for anxiety and sleep monitoring.
